Gina Evans, the longtime race director for Montana’s Butte 100 Mountain Bike Race, is stepping down to move on to new endeavors.

She sent Cycling West a statement about her retirement. The race will continue in 2018 on July 28, 2018. Details are below.

I am retiring from my position as Race Director of the Butte 100 Races, September 15. I have given 11 Months each for the past 11 years to this race and have been instrumental in developing the race to what it is today. The first race had 41 riders and this year we had 350. From humble beginnings and much work come great outcomes.

After 11 years, I am ready for a new challenge. I’ll still be living in Butte owning and running Linked Adventures. I’m also going to be a Field Representative for a research company in Missoula that is developing concussion testing. I have a vested interest in this because of the head injury I suffered during a hit and run on my bike in 2010. I have had previous concussions in my sports career.

I’m forever grateful to my parents Mary and Dave Evans for the amazing support not only in life, but with the Butte 100 Races. They have been helping all 11 years in many facets of the race, not only on race day but weeks leading up.

A most heartfelt thank you to Stephanie Sorini for purchasing the Butte 100 two years ago and now moving forward with the 12th Annual in 2018. I have been assisting with permits and sending inquiries to Stephanie allowing the race to have another awesome successful season. Also, a special thank you to Bob and Gwen Waggoner who owned the race the first nine years. It was Bob who asked me to be Race Director and take his ultimate dream and putting Butte on the map for a national mountain bike race.

Stay tuned to where the next ride will take me. THANK YOU everyone each and every Sponsor, Crew Member, countless numbers of Neon Army Volunteers, those with USFS (Jocelyn Dodge, Dave Sabo) BLM (Brad Colin), and the race Safety Team ( Jefferson Valley EMS, supported by Butte SAR)

It’s all downhill!
