Utah Senate Bill SB 104 Would Help Protect Vulnerable Road Users

February 5 – SB 104 – Vulnerable Users of Highways Bike Utah and Senator Weiler have introduced SB 104 – Vulnerable Users of Highways, the legislation is aimed to encourage motor vehicle drivers to be more aware of vulnerable road users and make sure that those motorists that harm them are held accountable. Utah law does not adequately deal with motorists who kill or injury vulnerable road users. Motorists should have an increased responsibility to protect vulnerable road users, because these users aren’t protected by two tons of steel, seat belts and airbags. By providing law enforcement with additional tools to protect vulnerable road users, we will make the roads safer for everyone. Vulnerable road users are defined as; a person riding an animal; or a person operating any of the following on a highway: a tractor, a skateboard, roller skates, in-line skates, a bicycle, an electric-assisted bicycle, a moped, a motor driven cycle, a motorized scooter, or a motorcycle.
