Bicycling in UtahBy Dave Iltis

April 2, 2015 – The Mountain Accord, a collaborative planning process for the future of the Central Wasatch Mountains, is taking public comment on its proposed blueprint through May 1, 2015.

The geographic area being considered is from Parley’s Canyon to Little Cottonwood, and from the base of the Wasatch in the Salt Lake valley to the Wasatch Back in Summit and Wasatch Counties.

All road and mountain cyclists are urged to comment on the draft blueprint. Currently, there is little mention of road biking, and little mention of mountain biking either. Some new mountain bike trails are being proposed (see the maps for locations).

In order to effectively comment, begin with the Mountain Accord Blueprint. Follow the links in the document for additional information for each of the four main areas (economy, environment, transportation, recreation). The blueprint is available here: mountainaccord.com/get-involved/

The document will affect bicycling in the canyons including Parley’s Canyon, Mill Creek Canyon, and Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons, as well as on the Wasatch Back.

For more information on the Mountain Accord, visit mountainaccord.com. To comment, visit the website, or email comments to [email protected], or by mail to 375 West 200 South, Ste. 275, SLC, UT 84101. One can call (844) 5-ACCORD for more information too.
