SALT LAKE CITY – Mayor Ralph Becker, Visit Salt Lake and the 2011 Tour of Utah Local Organizing Committee is pleased to invite the public to a Community ViewingFestival on Saturday, August 13 from noon-5 p.m. at downtown’s Reservoir Park.
Over 100 of the world’s best cyclists are in Utah this week competing for the championship title of “America’s Toughest Stage Race” and will be blazing down the streets of Salt Lake City Saturday on the Tour’s Stage 4 circuit course.
Join the Mayor at Reservoir Park where you will be able to see the racers twice on each of the 11 laps on the 7.4 mile course that starts and finishes at the Capitol and winds through the Avenues, University neighborhoods and downtown. Moment-by-moment live race coverage will also be available at a big screen viewing area at the park. Food, beverages, bicycle valet service and activities will make for a fun and family-friendly afternoon watching world-class athletic competition.
Organizers encourage participants to bike, walk or use public transportation to get to the park, where parking and automobile access will be limited. For those who need to drive, parking lots on the University of Utah campus near 100 South and North Campus will be open and free to the public on race day. Cars may not park on the course on Saturday and rolling closures will create some traffic delays in and around the course area.
