November 15, 2015 – The League of American Bicyclists announced their latest round of Bike Friendly Community Awards today. St. George was awarded an Honorable Mention.
“St. George has made improving bicycle friendliness a priority and has been a leader in Washington County in that regard. We are pleased that they have applied for the League’s Bicycle Friendly Community designation and been granted an Honorable Mention, though we hoped for Bronze. Knowing how many additional improvements are currently in progress we believe they will quickly advance in ranking,” said John Reed of the Southern Utah Bicycle Alliance (SUBA) in regards to the award.
The award looks at progress in five key areas: Education, Encouragement, Evaluation and Planning, Enforcement.
Earlier this year, Brigham Young University received a Bronze Bike Friendly University Award.
Utah’s Bike Friendly Communities are as follows: Salt Lake City – Silver, Moab and Grand County – Silver, Park City and Snyderville Basin – Silver, Ogden – Bronze, Provo – Bronze, Riverdale City – Bronze.
Utah’s Bike Friendly Universities are as follows: University of Utah – Silver, Utah State University – Silver, Brigham Young University – Bronze.
Utah was ranked as the fifth most Bike Friendly State in 2015.
