NICA and IMBA bring Singletrack High to industry professionals at Outdoor Retailer
Film celebrates fast-growing national high school cycling movement
Berkeley, CA – Hot off a successful tour spanning 11 states and 50 screenings, Singletrack High, a groundbreaking documentary showcasing the positive impacts of the high school cycling movement, will screen at the Outdoor Retailer expo in Salt Lake City, Utah, on August 1.
Taking a close look at the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) NorCal High School Cycling League, Singletrack High follows a diverse group of high school students through the 2012 high school mountain bike racing season. The film explores the wide range of positive outcomes from keeping adolescents active and exploring the outdoors on bikes at an age when so many are “trading in two wheels for four,” as one of the subjects puts it.
NICA has partnered with the International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA), Clif Bar, Teva, OSMO Nutrition, and Tecnu to bring Singletrack High to Outdoor Retailer at 5:00 PM, August 1, in Salon G/H of the Salt Lake Marriott Downtown at City Creek. The film will be followed by a raffle with prizes generously donated by Camelbak, Optic Nerve, Adventure Medical Kits, Yakima, and more. All proceeds will help NICA grow its Booster Fund, which provides scholarships to help underserved communities join the high school cycling movement. Raffle tickets go on sale at 4:00 PM on August 1 at the Adventure Medical Kits booth (booth 9027).
Filmmaker Jacob Seigel-Boettner, who co-produced the film with his brother Isaac, said, “So many of today’s youth are glued to the screen and deprived of a strong connection with nature. Throughout the course of filming Singletrack High, it was awesome to see kids renewing a connection to the outdoors. Not only are these kids are getting out into the woods, they are also getting to compete on a high school team in a sport where there is no bench.”
NICA executive director Austin McInerny stated, “We have had kids, parents, school administrators and teachers, and cycling legends alike come up to us after screenings, talking about how they want to run out and start a high school mountain bike team in their area. As the film continues to open new doors and grow the sport, we are excited to show this film to a national audience at Outdoor Retailer.”
Singletrack High was produced by Pedal Born Pictures. It was funded by Specialized Bicycle Components, a long-time believer in and supporter of the high school mountain biking movement. Additional production support was provided by GoPro and Sunnyvale VW.
