Pocatello’s Joyce Contributes to Win
Aigle, Switzerland (May 28, 2012) — The USA Cycling National Development Program capped off a successful trip to the Tour du Pays de Vaud on Sunday, May 27, where T.J. Eisenhart (Lehi, Utah/Velosport Racing) took home the yellow jersey after winning the overall classification. Eisenhart also claimed the King of the Mountains jersey, while teammate Tyler Williams (Shafter, Calif./Team Swift) won the points classification.
The team of American juniors opened the race with Eisenhart taking third in the prologue, one place ahead of teammate Alex Darville (Santa Barbara, Calif./Hammer Nutrition-CMG Racing Team). After attacking from a breakaway he was in with Williams during stage 1, Eisenhart soloed over the final few climbs to win the day and put himself in the overall lead as well as the KOM jersey. Williams, meanwhile, won the intermediate sprints to lead the points competition.
The second stage featured two races, the first was again won out of a breakaway by Eisenhart. Teammate Greg Daniel (Englewood, Colo./Slipstream-Craddock Junior Development) took fifth. The second half of the day was a time trial, where Eisenhart took fourth.
“The final stage saw the U.S. team put on a selfless and classy display of teamwork,” explained coach Billy Innes. After a break that included American Noah Williams (Wimberley, Texas/Slipstream-Craddock Junior Development) was caught, the USA Cycling squad took over. “On a rolling and difficult course, Darville, Tyler Williams and Colin Joyce (Pocatello, Idaho/Hot Tubes Development Cycling Team) put enough tempo in at the front of the pack to discourage any attacking. Daniel then took over on the steeper climbs, shepherding TJ [to the overall win].” Daniel also placed high in the final general classification, taking fifth.
Eisenhart was coming off a third-place finish in the overall classification at the Trofeo Karlsberg in Germany the week before.
