Vernal, Utah— The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Utah Vernal Field Office officially recognized ten  mountain bike trails in the McCoy Flats area south of Vernal.  These newly designated trails include beginner and intermediate routes that can be accessed through the recently completed McCoy Flats Trailhead.  The designation also allows for ongoing maintenance of existing trails and construction of additional new trails in the area.

The completion of this project was made possible by the dedication, cooperation and hard work of the Northeastern Mountain Bike Association and its founders—Troy Lupcho (Altitude Cycle), Dr. Richard Etchberger (Utah State University), and Kevin Christopherson (Utah Department Of Natural Resources, retired)—Uintah County Recreation and Tourism, The Watershed Restoration Initiative, and the International Mountain Bike Association.

Trail maps are currently available at Altitude Cycle, 580 East Main Street, Vernal, UT.  Winter plans for the area include installing information kiosks and developing a comprehensive sign plan for the entire trail system.  A ribbon cutting ceremony is also planned for spring 2013.
The Vernal Field Office is excited to promote healthy lifestyles by inviting the public to get outside and enjoy their public lands!  For more information about these trails and other outdoor recreation opportunities in northeastern Utah, please call the Vernal Field Office at (435) 781-4400.
