BOISE, Idaho - Jeannie Longo-Ciprelli (Ebly), thoroughly dominated a strong international field throughout the 12-day, 13-stage HP LaserJet Women's Challenge, winning by 3 minutes and 41 seconds over her nearest rival, American Mari Holden (HP Toner). Longo-Ciprelli, with the help of her powerful Ebly teammates, took control of the race in stage two, never relinquishing the blue Race Leader's jersey over the remaining 11 stages.
The conclusive 13th-stage, the HP LaserJet Supplies Road Race, proved fast and aggressive as teams attacked over the entire 50.6 miles. With the field intact over the final three miles, the 21 remaining teams began setting up their sprinters for the explosive field sprint. 1992 Olympic Pursuit Gold Medallist Petra Rossner, was the fastest as she narrowly outsprinted American Karen Dunne (Goldy's). Dunne, however, kept the purple Sprint Leader's jersey which she has worn since Stage 1. Rossner's victory was a repeat of last year's final stage finish.

The first stage of the 1999 HP LaserJet Women's Challenge climaxed in a dramatic photo finish in Idaho City, as Australian Anna Wilson of Saturn edged Germany's Ina Teutenberg at the line.

Longo-Ciprelli solos
IDAHO CITY, Idaho - France's Jeannie Longo-Ciprelli proved she is still one of the most dangerous riders in the world by blowing away the field to win the second stage of the 1999 HP LaserJet Womenés Challenge. Longo-Ciprelli (Ebly) pushed the pace on the ascent of the 6,800-foot Banner Summit and soloed the remaining 26 miles to claim the stage, one minute, 37 seconds ahead of the 12-rider chase group.

KETCHUM, Idaho - Despite a broken wrist, Lithuanian Jolanta Polikeviciute (HP Toner) held off Canadian Lyne Bessette (Saturn) and France's Elisabeth Chevannes-Brunel (Staples) to capture the 28.8-mile HP Toner Circuit Race in a time of 1 hour, 17 minutes, 17 seconds.

Longo-Ciprelli propels Ebly
MASSACRE ROCKS, Idaho - Captained by overall race leader, Jeannie Longo-Ciprelli, Team Ebly was the only one of 22 teams to break the one-hour mark in Stage 6, the HP Mopier Team Time Trial, a 25-mile out and back course. Their time of 59 minutes and one second was enough for a one minute and 20 second cushion over second place HP Toner.

AMERICAN FALLS, Idaho - The course record was broken by nearly 20 minutes when Germany's Ina Teutenberg (German National Team) outsprinted Australian Anna Wilson (Saturn) in the 109-mile HP Digital Sender Road Race, the longest ever road race for women. The time was 4 hours, 40 minutes and 25 seconds.

Jackson Battles Back
POMERELLE, Idaho - Canadian Olympian Linda Jackson (Timex) proved why she is considered one of the foremost climbers in the world by overcoming an early crash to solo to victory in the hilltop finish of Stage 8, the HP Personal LaserJet Road Race, in 2 hours, 54 minutes and 7 seconds. America's top rider, Mari Holden (HP Toner), finished second, 46 seconds off the pace.

Olympians dominate
BUHL, Idaho - Olympian Sarah Ulmer (Elita) of New Zealand soloed from a seven-woman breakaway with less than three miles to win Stage 9, the 84.2-mile HP Paper Road Race. Her time of 3 hours, 1 minute and 32 seconds broke the four-year old course record by nearly 23 minutes. 1992 Olympic Gold Medallist Kathy Watt (Australia, Boise Cascade) barely outsprinted Olympian Susy Pryde (New Zealand, Saturn) for second place, 33 seconds off the pace.

GLENNS FERRY, Idaho - The reigning Olympic Time Trial Gold Medallist, Zoulfija Zabirova (HP Toner) of Lithuania, soloed to victory in record time by winning Stage 10, the 76.7-mile HP LaserJet All-in-One Road Race. Her time was 3 hours and 15 seconds.
Winning the battle for second in a ferocious field sprint, 11 seconds off the pace, was the 1992 Pursuit Olympic Gold Medallist Petra Rossner (German National). The 1994 Goodwill Games Gold Medallist Brooke Blackwelder (Goldy's) of Boise, ID bested the 53-rider main field to hold onto 3rd place.

Longo-Ciprelli ups Lead
MELBA, Idaho - The hour world record holder, Jeannie Longo-Ciprelli (Ebly), 40, of France continued her dominance by winning the hilly 24.8 mile Individual Time Trial in 1 hour, 3 minutes and 13 seconds. Taking second in the "race of truth," was the 1998 Pan-Am Individual Time Trial Gold Medallist, Elizabeth Emery (Celestial Seasonings) from Philadelphia, PA, with a time of 1 hour, 4 minutes and 8 seconds. Rounding out the top three was two-time Australian National Time Trial Champion Anna Wilson (Saturn), in a time of 1 hour, 5 minutes.

BOISE, Idaho - Ina Teutenberg (German National), the former three-time Junior World Champion stood atop the podium for the second time by winning the sprint of the next to last stage, a 45-lap criterium held on a .77- mile figure eight course in downtown Boise. Her time was 1 hour, 21 minutes and 59 seconds. Canadian Lyne Bessette (Saturn) and Jennifer McRae (Timex) of Austin, TX finished second and third.
