The 1999 PedalFest Cycling Festival marks the seventh year for this fun-filled Park City extravaganza. A true celebration of the sport of cycling, this year's festival will offer something for everyone.
On Saturday, June 19th, the Intermountain Cup Mountain Bike Race Series will kick off the PedalFest celebration with the Spin Cycle PedalFest Race. A new component of the event will include a rolling start from City Park up to the Deer Valley Resort. This NORBA classic cross-country race will charge through dense woods, tight single track and a few service roads on the world famous Deer Valley course.
Back in Park City's City Park, workshops and clinics will be offered on everything from emergency bike mechanics, proper trail etiquette, and nutrition to a learn to race program for the young athlete. Tours of the region's new as well as, old trails will be lead by professional guides from White Pine Touring, Jans and Cole Sports, in addition to Sport Touring Ventures.
The American Lung Association will hold their annual Clean Air Challenge Road Bike Ride in conjunction with the PedalFest. The ride will begin in City Park then proceed out through Browns Canyon and beyond, depending on the participants preferred distance. Routes of 25, 50 and 75 miles will be marked. Support vehicles and rest stops will be manned along the route.
Several new components have been added to the festival including a bike safety rodeo for the young cyclist, produced by The Park City Bicycle Patrol. The Chainless Downhill (not brakeless) will return with a coast from the top of the Guardsmen Pass road to the bottom of Daly Canyon. The heavier the competitor and bike, the better! This is a non-sanctioned just for fun, race! Prizes and awards are as unique as the race itself!
The Norwegian School of Nature Life will showcase staff skills as they mentor the Bike Rodeo, complete with the ever-popular raft pull and lasso contests. Other entertaining competitions will include a tire changing competition, an informal trials contest, a tricycle crit race and a huffy toss.
The PedalFest Expo will return with vendors from mountain bike manufactures, cycling related products and other sporting good items. Many of the vendors will offer demo opportunities of their products.
The one-day event will conclude with music from local performers an awards ceremony for the various races and a fabulous lunch from Park City's favorite Mexican Restaurant, Nacho Mamas.
The 1999 PedalFest is a benefit for the Mountain Trails Foundation, a trail advocacy group dedicated to preserving, creating and maintaining trails.
