LOGAN, Utah - This year's 17th annual LOTOJA Classic bicycle race from Logan UT to Jackson Hole, WY will draw more participants, spectators and media coverage than ever before.
Early Sept. 18, hundreds of cyclists will embark on what is heralded as the longest single-day bicycle road race in North America. The cyclists will pass through three states (Utah, Idaho and Wyoming) and climb over a 7,000-ft. mountain pass while riding 203 miles through incredibly scenic countryside. The 1999 race will include a 4-person relay as well as categories for all levels of racers.
New for '99! Epek Sports & Promotion announces the addition of a 4-person Relay Team category. Assemble a team and ride LOTOJA like you never have before!
Riders are required to exchange at feedzones ONLY. There are SIX FEEDZONES along the course - Your team of four decides your strategy.

Also Epek will produce a one-hour television program of the LOTOJA Classic, which will be broadcast to a national audience on the Resort Sport Network (RSN) during the 1999 and 2000 television seasons. The race production staff will involve over 100 people including camera crews, radio operators, race officials, police escorts, neutral support and the driver of the bright yellow Hummer pace car. Thousands of spectators will watch from along the course and finish lines.
LOTOJA offers a close-up look into the lives of a unique group of people who measure happiness by the degree to which they challenge themselves.
Interesting LOTOJA facts
* In 1983, the first ever LOTOJA featured 9 riders. The winning time was just over nine hours.
* LOTOJA now offers 11 categories for professional, citizen, tandem and relay riders.
* Riders usually finish in 8-12 hours with the fastest riders averaging 25 miles per hour.
* Approximately 90% of the participants who enter the LOTOJA actually finish.
* The worst weather conditions during the LOTOJA brought snow and rain.
* The fastest finish time ever was 7:26.24 by Scott Moninger in 1996.
* The longest it has ever taken someone to finish is 17 hours.
* Past race winners include Scott Moniger, Marty Jemison and Dwight Hall.
* The oldest rider to finish the LOTOJA was 68 years old.
* The youngest rider to finish was 14 years old.

Start: Pack I 6:45 a.m. Pack II 6:50 a.m. Pack III 6:55 a.m. Pack IV 7:00 a.m. All racers start from Sunrise Cyclery, 138 N. 100 E., Logan, Utah and finish at Teton Village, Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Categories: Pro Category I-V, Licensed Women, Tandems, Citizen Riders;17-26, 27-34, 35-44 and 45+, Citizen Women, 4-person relay.
Awards ceremony will be held Sunday, Sept. 19 - 10:00 a.m. at the Cody House at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Teton Village.
LOTOJA is not weather dependent (will race in all weather conditions).
