Saturn rider Anna Wilson won the Conde Naste women's criterium in New York City Aug. 28. Utah rider Heather Hall-Albert placed third.
In a day devoted to women athletes, Wilson was one of the 250 women that competed in the running, skating and cycling events for all categories of athletes. In its third year, the Conde Naste sponsored event continues to grow its draw on both participants and spectators.
The 1,2,3 race, was aggressive from the start with each team sending attack after attack. Team Saturn had four riders as did the Schwab and Cox Atlanta Velo teams. Nearly 60 women competed in the 35-lap race.
With about 15 laps to go, Wilson attacked on a small hill half way through the course. Timex rider Kendra Wenzel and Schwab rider Hall-Albert joined Wilson after a one lap chase, and the three began to work smoothly together.
The Cox team tried to chase but never managed to organize a concerted effort until three laps to go. Meanwhile, Wenzel and Wilson worked hard to open the time gap; and, with three laps to go a three up sprint was inevitable.
With the field closing in fast in the last lap, Wenzel led out the sprint. Wilson, however, jumped on the left side of the road, taking the shorter line to the finish. Wilson won the race by a half a wheel's length over Wenzel with Albert in third.
two named as replacements
The ax has fallen once again upon the United States Cycling Federation's (USCF) Utah/Idaho state coordinator.
In a letter from USA Cycling dated August 25, Utah and Idaho riders were informed that Cindy Yorgason of Ogden would no longer be the local coordinator for Utah. She lost her position in Idaho as well. No reason for the termination was given.
The letter was signed by Warren Conrad, USAC membership director. Yorgason had been the representative in Utah for two years.
Yorgason will be replaced in Utah by Utah racer Dirk Cowley and USCF/NORBA official Harry Lam. It is unknown at this time who will replace her in Idaho.
State coordinator positions are part-time volunteer positions that work within a budget managed by the Regional Manager. This budget exists to cover expenses for state coordinators.
Duties of state coordinators consist of scheduling officials clinics, state event scheduling meetings, USCF rider upgrades, USCF site visits and officials assignments for USCF and NORBA events (when requested).
Coordinators are also to have direct contact and provide assistance to riders, business partners and others in their state. They also work closely with current state associations and help build new democratic state associations.
The SLC Transportation Department recently installed 4 new bike racks to help meet the demand at the Traveler�s Aide Shelter on 200 S. Many of the residents rely on bikes as their sole means of transportation. At times there are up to 80 bicycles at the shelter, rideable or not in some cases.

Travis does very well on the national circuit and is destined to become a serious contender at the rate he's going.
